FAQ

Q: "If Asura is a voidsent, does he consume aether?"
A: "Yes."
-
Q: "Why does Asura have brown hair and brown skin? Aren’t voidsent pale, red-eyed, monsters?"
A: "Asura glamours himself to be more palatable. His natural skin and hair colors are stark white, and his eyes are a demonic red."
-
Q: "Aren’t voidsent supposed to be evil?"
A: "Voidsent caught in the Flood of Darkness on the 13th were exposed to extreme amounts of darkness to the point that their minds, bodies, and souls were irrevocably turned monstrous. Asura was very slowly converted in an ice cave in Garlemald, mitigating insanity, and significant physical mutation."
-
Q: "How come Asura hasn’t been killed yet? Wouldn’t adventurers or guards kill him on sight?"
A: "Yes, they would. Several have tried, but Asura doesn’t leave witnesses. Moreover, his glamours are significant. If someone had aethersight they would notice something is very ‘wrong’ with Asura, but to the average person he is indistinguishable."
-
Q: "Bro, how is he indistinguishable? He has horns."
A: "So do Au Ra. Also, Asura glamours his horns in public."
-
Q: "How powerful is Asura?"
A: "If you were to compare Asura to the power levels of every other adventurer in Eorzea, he would be in the top 5%, but could he beat the WoL? No, of course not. If you have done the Reaper Questline, Asura is a few steps above Orcus in terms of strength."
-
Q: "Is Asura a Reaper?"
A: "No. Reapers form pacts with voidsent to borrow strength in exchange for aether. Asura IS the voidsent."
-
Q: "Is Asura a half-voidsent?"
A: "No. Half-voidsent implies some extremely particular conditions wherein your aether is partially corrupted but not so wholly as to be unsalvageable. Asura is entirely a voidsent. His aether is entirely voidal in nature. However, because he was not created in the void itself, he was able to maintain a more human-like appearance."
-
Q: "What kind of voidsent is Asura?"
A: "A Dvergr. These are a rare type, but they show up occasionally in the game. Forgall from The Weeping City of Mhach is a Dvergr. You also encounter one in the Masked Carnivale Stage 28, during the Post Endwalker MSQ with Zero in Garlemald, and as part of a Post Shadowbringers sidequest with Unukalhai."
-
Q: "Isn't Asura a Thavnairian Primal?"
A: "Yes indeed. Asura is named after the Manusya 'Asura', a Thavnairian god of war."

(Rubs Temples.) Okay. Granted, Asura is in fact a voidsent, and on occasion other players with voidsent characters may be giving themselves and Asura a bad name. A lot of voidsent characters are really bad at blending in and use their nature as a kind of ‘kink’ rather than a sickness. Asura’s voidal nature makes him perpetually hungry for fresh aether. And while living in Eorzea works that problem out on its own, people are right to be suspicious of him. However, Asura very heavily glamours himself to the point where nobody is going to look at him and immediately start screaming for his death. Asura has no trouble walking around in public, and he doesn’t take unnecessary risks. His need for aether is transactional in nature, as he as enough mental capacity to ask for it first, OR obtain it through foods or beasts. As a courtesy, it would be appreciated if your character either A) is completely fooled by Asura’s glamour or B) doesn’t care enough to make a big deal out of it. After all, he is the head of a voidsent hunting company. Give him SOME credit. At least enough credit to recognize that Asura is aware of the dangers an insane demon would cause when left unchecked.
